Welcome to Weddings are Weird
A critical blog about marriage
Should you, in this political, social and economic climate, put a ring on it or nah?
Welcome to my critical blog about marriage in 2k18 (with a little history thrown in), where I try to work through questions like: How do people treat you differently when you are married? What are the different ways people talk about marriage? What are the different reasons people get married? Who tends to get left out of the weddings and marriage narrative? How is all of this affected by where you are, your intersecting identities and how has it changed over time? Basically, what's up with the discourse on marriage?
Having said that, this blog is fueled by my own experiences as a married, 20-something, white South African womxn living in Japan. I might supplement this with other people's (credited) writing and try to show different voices, but I won't show the whole picture or even a significant part of it, just my piece of the puzzle. Some pieces will be researched and others will be merely my own whims, but in the end it's a personal blog. But of course, the personal is political, and when it comes to marriage, this couldn't be more true.
